I recently started catching up on the 2010 season of Saturday Night Live and my favorite skit by far is The Miley Cyrus Show with Vanessa Bayer. I'm now known to abuse the phrase "that's pretty cool" in my most Miley-esque voice then flashing you my cutest smile. I'm getting good too, and that's pretty cool.
Miley Interviews Johnny Depp
Miley Interviews Katie Holms
Miley Interviews Justin Bieber
P.S. I'm also liking Ann Hathaway much more after seeing her Katie Holms impersonation.
My aunt sent me this video several years ago and it's something I refer to over and over again in my daily life. As annoying as the "green" movement can be sometimes, our consumer culture is even more annoying, and I love how Annie Leonard lays everything out and brings an understandable awareness to our throw-away culture without lording it over us in a trendy-hipster, eco-chic kind of way. I'd love to hear what you think...
I'm not sure where to begin when describing my enormous crush on filmmaker-writer-artist Miranda July. Along with being insanely talented, Miranda's numerous works address larger questions about life, love, and humanity - which for me, makes her not only crush-worthy but truly inspirational. So instead of trying to share her myriad of works, I'm going to show one of her art installations, titled The Hallway, that I found quite profound.
Thank you Miranda for being my Crush of the Week. Even though you're no long taking submissions for Learning To Love You More, I think I'll still participate and start sharing the assignments here on my blog in the very near future. You are truly one in a million! xo
As I mentioned before I'm a huge fan of the new show Portlandia, so when I heard that Fred Armisen gave the commencement speech for the graduating class at Oregon Episcopal School in Portland, I immediately knew it would be awesome. Fred wasn't only hilarious, he gave some really fantastic advise and shared some fun personal antics that I'm sure the students won't forget...
FYI: I'm not a big fan of cooking. Baking? Yes. Drinking? Yes. Cooking? No. So when I stumbled across My Drunk Kitchen I knew I'd found a girl after my own hart, Hannah Hart to be exact. She's not only hilarious, she's funny too, and she's taught me that cooking can be tolerable with the right amount of alcohol. So sit back, pull up a bottle, and follow the directions carefully. You don't want to miss this...
"Hannah 'Harto' Hart is a bay area native and recent (as of January 2011) transplant to New York City. To support herself, Harto works as a proofreader for an international translation firm. In her free time, she can be found listening to music and doing sudoku in cafes. She calls this "writing". She enjoys long meandering walks, impromptu dance parties, and artisinal cheeses. Also, she's a big ol' homo."
"Recently, Harto decided to make a cooking show and get drunk while doing it. 'My Drunk Kitchen' was received with mild (to moderate) attention and has encouraged aspiring alcoholics everywhere. For this she is very proud."
"Currently, she stars in, films, and edits all of her own videos. Harto has also written a screenplay, some sketch comedy, and lots of terrible poetry. All of which she hopes one day to share."
Dear Amy Poehler: I knew you were awesome the minute I watched you and Tina Fey do a spoof of Hilary Clinton and Sarah Palin, and your awesomeness was reaffirmed in last years January issue of Bust Magazine. But now? Now this? A new show you host with your best friends Meredith Walker and Amy Miles called Smart Girls at the Party, where young girls are encouraged and celebrated!?! Who are you? Where did you come from? And most importantly, will you be my mommy? Did I also mention you are awesome and my daughter loves your show?
I've been having serious Mad Men withdraws lately, and with the postponement of Season 5 until 2012 I've become embarrassingly desperate for the harsh, drunken, and adulterous ways of the cast. I especially can't wait to see how Betty Draper deals with her caged existence and how Don's new marriage works out in the coming season. Until then, these video montages will have to do...
Being a parent isn't easy. There is way too much to worry about. Like why isn't Haven reading chapter books when other kids in her Kindergarten class are? And why does Brannock have to love Disney characters so much when another pre-schooler in his class is sighting the geological periods and naming the dinosaurs that existed accordingly? And why, when I feel like I am a rock star parent because I haven't lost it once today and I came up with a "specific praise" off the top of my head, do my kids then act like I am the devil himself?? Who knows. What I can say though, is the 1989 movie Parenthood, still rings blaringly true and makes me feel a little less evil for being an imperfect parent. God I hope I don't turn my kids into the Unabomber.
I recently stumbled across this video through this blog, and I love it for many reasons, but mostly because 1). I love the Beastie Boys 2). all the actors and comedians in the video are hilarious, and 3). it's totally awesome.
