Prompt 11: Things {via Reverb 10}
"What are 11 things your life doesn’t need in 2011? How will you go about eliminating them? How will getting rid of these 11 things change your life?" (Author: Sam Davidson)
- Guilt
- Shame
- Complacency
- Bad fitting jeans
- Too many unused possessions
- Cheap shampoo
- Defensiveness
- Uncomfortable pillows
- Co-dependency
- Fear
- Trying to neatly package my life
This list is in no way exhaustive, but I think it highlights some very important themes in my life. For example, guilt, shame, complacency, co-dependency, defensiveness, and fear all keep me from living the width of my life. They hold me in the shadows and rob me of my power. Things like cheap shampoo, bad fitting jeans, uncomfortable pillows, and owning too many unused possessions bog me down, creating extra work and discomfort for both my mind and body. As for trying to neatly package my life, that seems to come from a place of wanting to control and predict everything in my world. This is where I greatly benefit from remembering The Serenity Prayer:
Some of these things are easy to eliminate with a trip to Goodwill, the other changes are coming more slowly, and sometimes painfully, through daily practice, awareness, and diligence. But, if I can exit this year with more serenity, courage, and wisdom than I came with (not to mention a great pair of jeans), I will be grateful.
Nice reminder - I have another load ready for Goodwill as we speak. I agree with the bad shampoo gig, Suave just doesn't cut it!
